1981, les radios libres font leur apparition. Les protestants décident d’utiliser et de développer ce média. Le pasteur Pierre Zentz installe, dès 1982 en Cévennes-Languedoc-Roussillon, un réseau de quatre radios : Montpellier, Nîmes, Alès et Carcassonne. Au départ, quelques émissions et peu de temps d’antenne. C’est le 17 mars 1992 que Radio Grille Ouverte peut voler de ses propres ailes. 25 ans plus tard, il est temps de faire le bilan.
